I was shocked when I found out Amy Winehouse had passed so suddenly. She was such an amazing singer and she was definetly in her own lane. I felt like she had just made her mark on the US charts before her death and I hate the fact that it was due to drug abuse. I wonder why us as young adults fail to realize that drugs will never have a positive outlook on our lives and it is definetly killing us in numbers . But regardless of Amy’s personal life , I am still enjoyin her music and always will. ”Tears dry on their own” caught my ears because I loved how she used the original Ain’t No Mountain High Enough song and made it her own with her original lyrics. It’s something about the UK and their singers huh?
It’s been a long time since i’ve did a Mama Africa post so I thought why not put one of my favorite party songs up here. I remember the first time I heard this track I was spending my summer in Trenton after my freshman year in college. I absolutely fell in love with this track, I just wish this video had more of our African culture shown. Naija is always up to something good.
I had to do a throwback post on Dipset, one of the hottest rap groups of my middle school years. I think everybody at that time wanted to be apart of Dipset and repped Harlem to the fullest whether they were from there or not. Their movement was so powerful to me and I had a serious boy crush on Juelz Santana. Before Juelz Santana even existed I also had a crush on Camron, I don’t know it was something about that bald head. It would be epic to see these fellas do another album together but who knows if that will ever be. Because things change, people change and life goes on. I just hope that these gentleman are all on good terms and I wish them the best in their current endeavors.
Also Shout-out to my homie @IamDjN_abitionz for giving me inspiration to do this post on them. He did a live mix for the NY,NJ,PA area and I fell in love with the music all over again. I actually am a on air radio personality for his college radio show, WUAG 103.1 @theNcrowdRadio. Check us out!! We are on air every monday 11pm-1am.
