Paula Abdul’s Vintage Flava

When I started this vintage post category I didn’t know how popular it would be. But surprisingly as of right now it is my most viewed topic on my blog and it’s all because of you the readers. I just wanted to say thanks for all the support and Nuflava is going in a new & improved direction.
I decided my first vintage flavoree would be talented entertainer Ms. Paula Abdul. Paula Abdul is most known for being a judge on American idol but before that she was a singer. My father absolutely loved her so I have always been hip to her music but who knew she had a fresh style to her.

Check out Paula Abdul’s vintage flava!

I love all of these looks, she had such fly style. I actually have some pieces in my closet that are similar but I never thought about putting them together the way she did. That last photo’s one piece is gorgeous. She was effortlessly beautiful.
Paula Abdul got that flava.

Vintage Flava: Lisa Bonet x The Cosby Show

I’ve always admired Lisa Bonet’s bohemian style in The Cosby show. She was always so free spirited when it came to her wardrobe. Since the vintage look is trending so much now I knew her style would be perfect to inspire all of my fashionistas!

I love the stripe hat style, her and Queen Latifah rocked that fiercely. The hat kind of reminds me of a traditional African headwear the meN in my family wears. The picture with the sweatshirt and the tights is definitely a typical fall outfit for me. And that last photo is so beautiful and effortlessly elegant.I currently have a similar hair style. I love when my hair is untamed, big with beautiful curls just like the divas in the 80s. Hope y’all ladies got some ideas and remember to make it your own!

Happy Thrifting.

HIGH WAISTED PANTS

I absolutely love the high waisted pants look especially on myself since I have long legs. You could dress a pair up with some killer heels or wedges with a button up shirt or dressy blouse. Or you could make it casual by wearing a plain crop top. Its so much you can do with these jeans so its my number 1.

THE 80′s WINDBREAKER

Ive been wearing these jackets since my freshman year in college and I cant get enough of them. If you definitely want some neck turning attention you have to cop this. I love this look with a bold gold necklace, black leggings, and some cute kicks. I love the fact that there are endless color schemes, prints and styles. Its really comfortable and casual for a rainy day.

THE OVERSIZED SWEATER

At first I couldn’t quite figure out who was missing on my site I just knew it was someone who I was inspired by when I was younger. Then one day I randomly started singing “Are you that somebody by Aaliyah. I can not believe I went this long without putting my girl on this site. I still to this day rock the Aaliyah bang and I love her plum lipstick. I also noticed the bandana style coming back and I would definitely rock that camouflage top with some high waisted shorts. You can tell that she grew out of her tom boyish stage maybe because the label wanted a new look for her. Either way she was beautiful. And I had to throw in the picture with her and left eye because that moment seemed so powerful. RIP to these two beautiful women..

Be fashionable and get inspired..

Vintage Flava: Tupac Shakur x Jada Pinkett

Didn’t you just love these two together? Jada Pinkett & Tupac were definitely my favorites growing up in the 90s. Their chemistry was so strong on and off camera I am surprised they did not do a movie together. They both had crazy styles that everyone had to have. From Jada’s platinum blonde hair to Tupac’s tied bandana there was no doubt that they were not fashion icons in the 90s. I love that photo of Tupac with those thug life overalls which was definitely a staple trend in the 90s for boys and girls.

So let them be an inspiration to your closet. Get creative and have fun!!!

Vintage Flava: A Different World TV Show

I remember coming home from school and throwing my bag down in the living room with my eyes glued to the television screen because A different World was on. This show revealed to America the lives of successful HBCU students. Check out these fly ladies and gentlemen, the fashion of the college students at Hilman..

I’m lovig the vintage trend right now.. There’s nothing like a blast from the past!!!

Enjoy…

Jasmine Guy‘s outfit is so classic. I love it!!

Vintage Flava: Boyz N In The Hood Edition

Boyz N The Hood directed by John Singleton will always be a classic African-American film in my opinion. Now that i’m older, i’m pretty much over the script and paying attention to this vibrant fashion. There are so many ideas to choose from it is exciting. For the ladies my favorite is the girl in the last picture with the colorful shirt tied and the red hat on. I would definetly try that look with some boyfriend jeans. Also I love Regina Hall’s gGddess braids and the ladies plum lipstick, I think it is time to bring the plum lipstick back!! For the fellas I love Cuba Gooding’s shirt in the movie cover and his baseball jacket in the second photo. There are so many other fly looks to put together so knock ya self out!!

Get Inspired Ladies & Gentleman….

Vintage Flava: House Party Cast

As a little kid growing up in the 90s, I could not wait to be a teenager so I could experience the fun of a unauthorized house party. I loved every bit of this movie but mostly I loved the fashion. There were so many different fashion statements going on in this movie both female and male. From Kid’s signature hair styles to TlC’s gender bender wear, you can tell that the 90s teenagers loved to have fun with their clothing. Sometimes I wish I was a teenager during the 90s instead of the millineum so I could experience the essence of these fashion trends. I also noticed how girls wore less revealing outfits as opposed to now where its all about the tighter, the better. But’s alright ladies if you got it, flaunt it! My favorite outfit is Left Eye‘s athletic gear, she was wearing the hell outta that jersey!!! RIP my beautiful sista.. Oh yea and Sharlene’s sweater was too fly, love the colors!

Get inspired ladies and gentleman…

Vintage Flava: NWA x Tiffani-Amber Thiessen from Save By The Bell

For the ladies, I love this look of Tiffani aka Kelly off of one of my favorite tv shows, Save The Bell. Suspenders with a short bustier or a bandeau bra is definitely a fly look. Wear a pair of boyfriend jeans for a casual look or you could dress this up with a pair of harem pants.

Ain’t nothin realer than NWA back in 1987. Gold ropes, black & white plain shirts, and black snapbacks= the classic flava of the california gangstas. fellas try this look with a kings or raiders snapback..

Hope this inspired you, Enjoy!

Vintage Flava: Salt N Pepa x DJ Jazzy Jeff x Will Smith

The ladies of Salt N Pepa. This is for all my vintage fashionistas out here who aren’t scared to go for that daring look. I love the leather coats with the gold rope chain. And the high white socks is a nice touch on Salt.Pepa’s acid washed jeans is a classic 80′s look. Also Check out the bold hair cuts.. Pepa is working that blonde though lol Love it!!!

No vintage junkie could not deny the style looks of Will Smith & Jazzy Jeff back in the 90′s. I love the graphics Jazzy Jeff shirt has, He smooth! Peep the glasses and the haircuts too.

Fly guys and girls, Hope this got you inspired..
